LibraZiK news - September 2024

Hello LibraZiK-ies.

It's time to take stock of what's been new in LibraZiK over the last 7 months. If you've been following the Mastodon account for the project, you've been able to keep up with them as they've come in, and here they are below in summary form (software updates, new software, miscellaneous information...).

Musics made with LibraZiK::

Below are some pieces of music created with LibraZiK that you can listen to while reading this article:

Now that you've got enough music waiting in your playlist, we can begin our review of what's new in LibraZiK since December.

Updates: The Jamulus online jam software has been updated to version 3.10.0. Thanks to Arnaud for testing it before uploading it to LibraZiK.

Great news, the guitar accompaniment and tablature software Tuxguitar has been taken over by a bunch of developers after years of no news from its original developer. This has allowed it to get back on track and be developed again, and so version 1.5.6 has arrived in LibraZiK. Thanks to Pierrick (piep) who helped make the packaging, and thanks also to Matthieu (Houston4444) and Nicolas (Sub26nico) for testing. Note that there is a request to the developer to adapt the software to the NSM protocol, which would allow advanced use with RaySession for example. Don't hesitate to add your voice!

The multi-track arranger Muse has also been updated to version 4.2.1.Thanks also to Pierrick for his contribution to the packaging.

The airwindows-lv2 plug-in package has been upgraded from version 14.0 to 26.2, adding over forty new plug-ins! Enough to refresh your mixing habits! Thanks to Nicolas and Erwan (r1) for testing.

The Drumrox|plug-in drum machine has been upgraded from version 1.1.1 to version 3.2.1, adding several major features such as a multi-channel version and support for the SFZ format. Thanks to Nicolas for testing.

The audio/MIDI arranger Qtractor has also been updated to version 0.9.39.Thanks for testing Nicolas.

The host used to load JSFX plugins called YSFX has been updated to a slightly more recent version that fixes a few bugs. Thanks again to Nicolas for testing it before putting it into LibraZiK.

The multi-track audio/MIDI arranger Ardour has been upgraded from version 8.1.0 to 8.2.0, and then to version 8.4.0. Note that I've created a new package called "ardour-medias" which contains samples for more creative use of Ardour. Thanks to Nicolas and Erwan for testing.

The Swiss army knife host Carla has been upgraded from version 2.5.2 to 2.5.8.Thanks to Nicolas and Erwan for testing.

The set of plugins LSP-plugins has been upgraded to version 1.2.15, which brings dozens of new plugins, as well as the arrival of CLAP and VST3 format plugins. Thanks to Nicolas and Matthieu for testing.

New software:

A new piece of software has arrived in LZK-4, an LV2-format plug-in called Mr. Freeze that lets you 'freeze' the sound while you're playing. It can be useful, for example, to freeze a chord to allow you to work on an evolution, a solo or a Turkish that sounds good. It can be useful, for example, to freeze a chord to allow you to work on an evolution, a solo, a-something-that-sounds-good.

Documentation :

  • lexicon : add entries for Grelot, Jingle Bell, bell tree, arbre à cloche, claves, maracas, cabasa, güiro, vibraslap, cowbell, sonnaille, tambourin, Dulcimer, and Clavinet, as well as updating the impulse response input.

Miscellaneous:

The Spanish translation of the "Audio and video" sub-menus in LibraZiK has been improved by TuxLeManchot (thanks!).

Summer is coming to an end and so is the LibraZiK 4 development cycle. For the coming weeks and months, the time I'll have available for the project will probably be used to finalise the future new LibraZiK-5 based on the stable Debian "bookworm".

It's the end of this blog post, so as usual I'm going to give my heartfelt thanks to the people who are helping to drive the project forward, especially Nicolas "sub26nico", Erwan "r1", and Mathieu 'houston4444' as well as the developers of the software used by the LibraZiK project. May the new school year be mild and gentle, just as it should be!

Don't forget to fund the LibraZiK project if you want to keep the project going.

Enjoy your Indian summer, and see you soon!
Olivier
